I have 4 traffic tickets from 2016 and I am being summoned to appear in court. I am technically home bound and I cannot appear in court. What can I do?

Updated • 1 month 2 weeks ago

I have 4 tickets from February and from October of 2016. 1 ticket was for speeding, another one for not making a full stop on a street sign, and the two of them for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver's license. I am on permanent disability. I am technically home bound. I have glaucoma, cataracts, peripheral neuropathy, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, a tumor in my brain that triggers epileptic seizures, advanced arthritis all over my body, advanced diabetes, I can barely move. I live on a fixed monthly income and I cannot afford to pay a lawyer or a traffic ticket since the monthly income that I receive from the government does not even fully cover for my rent. I have been summoned to appear in court on February 23rd of 2023 and I just cannot do it with all of my health issues and I cannot afford to pay for the tickets. I would be willing to pay with jail time, but I would have to be assigned with a nurse to take care of me for all the time that I get as a sentence while I am in jail because I need constant and permanent medical assistance with multiple medications and monitors to keep me alive. What can I do? Please advice.

If you are unable to physically appear in court, you may need to contact the court and explain your situation. Depending on the location of the court, some may be willing to arrange for an alternative form of appearance such as a telephone hearing or video conferencing. In certain cases, if you can demonstrate that attending court will cause you undue hardship then the court may agree to waive your personal appearance. You should also check with any legal representation whether it is possible to represent yourself without appearing before the judge. It’s important that you understand your rights and obligations when dealing with traffic tickets and that you take steps to ensure that all proceedings are handled properly. Additionally, there may be other alternatives available such as paying a fine or completing a defensive driving course. It’s best to contact the court and discuss your options before making a decision.

Finally, it’s important that you follow all instructions given by the court in order to avoid any further consequences or fines. If the court has requested that you appear in person, then it is essential that you do so; otherwise, you may be found in contempt of court and face additional repercussions for not following the court’s orders. Therefore, if at all possible, it is advisable that you make every effort to comply with what has been asked of you.

4 traffic tickets in Missoury

If you have received four or more traffic tickets in Missouri, it is important to understand the potential implications. Depending on the type of violations and other factors, drivers with multiple tickets may be considered a high-risk driver and face additional penalties. Such consequences could include increased fines, license suspensions, higher insurance premiums, or even jail time. In some cases, the state may require drivers to attend traffic school or a defensive driving course in order to keep their license.

Review your driver’s record

Fortunately, there are steps you can take to reduce the severity of penalties and avoid more tickets. First, be sure to review your driver’s record for accuracy and make any necessary corrections. Then look into attending traffic school or a defensive driving course to improve your driving and reduce the chances of future violations. Finally, review Missouri’s traffic laws carefully so you understand exactly what is expected of you while on the road.

By following these steps, you can help protect yourself from harsher penalties due to multiple tickets. Additionally, it is important to remember that the consequences of traffic violations can vary depending on your state and local laws, so be sure to check with your local DMV to determine what is applicable in your area. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to speak with an attorney if you have any questions or concerns about your situation. With the right help, you can take proactive steps to minimize the damaging effects of multiple traffic tickets.

Traffic Violation in Missoury - facts

Missouri requires the Department of Revenue to suspend a driver’s license for up to one year if they accumulate four or more moving violations within 12 months, or six or more in 24 months. Drivers may be eligible for reinstatement after completing a defensive driving course and paying all associated fees.

When it comes to traffic tickets, Missouri follows a point system. Each violation carries a certain number of points, with more serious offenses incurring a higher total. If you accumulate 8 or more points within 18 months, your license will be suspended for 30 days. You may also be required to attend traffic school in order to have the suspension removed from your record.

The penalties for traffic violations in Missouri can be severe, so it is important to understand the potential consequences of multiple tickets. By taking proactive steps and working with an experienced attorney, you can minimize your risk and ensure that your rights are protected. Remember: no matter how many tickets you receive, there may be options available to help you get back on the road safely.
